Why our goals fall short

Finding balance is something we may all be striving for, and forever falling short. Do you ever wonder how some people DO IT ALL? ๐Ÿ‘‡

How can someone in a week's time be a supportive girlfriend/wife/find time to date, be an amazing best friend (to a few people), text back to everyone, answer DMโ€™s, write emails, work, workout, be healthy, treat themselves, find time to read, have passion projects, etc?

Let me know if this sounds familiar...

Every Sunday I lay in bed and think about the kind of week I want to have: "I'll exercise 3x, I'll read my book, I'll make a few healthy meals, I'll be productive at work, and I'll journal and meditate each morning."

And then I do less than 25% of all these goals. โฌ† Why is that? Week on week I felt unproductive. Then I finally came up with something! I was losing myself bc I was expecting too much of myself. My "ideal vision" for how I should complete my goals blocked me for even starting them.

Simple productivity Mantra:

STOP LOOKING FOR PERFECTION. A major barrier that prevents me from doing more than 1-2 goals in my daily routine is that Iโ€™m usually waiting to do it perfectly.

new mentality vs. old mentality

Old Plan: Allot 2+ perfect hours to make a dent in my book. instead of Netflix and Tiktok.

๐ŸŒŸ NEW Plan: What if I adjusted my goal to only 20 mins before bed? 3x that per week equals an hour and ~50 pages in a book! And then I can do the other mindless things as well.

Old Plan: Work out a ton. I hate working out and 30-60 mins of an online workout class always seems daunting at 8:00 am!

๐ŸŒŸ NEW Plan: Do a 15 min streaming video. If I'm feeling good I can do more, and if not I'll be proud that I moved my body.

โ˜๐ŸผThe point Iโ€™m trying to make is our own perfectionism affects our "balance"...not outside distractions or running out of time.

summary:

If we lower our expectations and the "flawless execution" of our actions, we might be a lot more proud of the things we ACTUALLY accomplish in the week (instead of putting them off because they're not done in "such a way.")

This mindset has helped me accomplish more than ever. Itโ€™s not โ€œperfectโ€ but itโ€™s balanced.
